"The fragility of existence": books by Ukrainian authors at the Frankfurt Book Fair
At the 75th Frankfurt Book Fair, which took place from 18 to 22 October in Frankfurt am Main, Ukraine impressed the audience with its rich cultural heritage, presenting more than 500 books from 43 publishers. Ukraine's stand, which covered an area of about 200 square metres, was sponsored by the Ukrainian Book Institute, Goethe-Institut, Mystetskyi Arsenal and the Ukrainian Institute.
The information was disseminated by LB.ua with reference to the press service of the Ministry of Culture and Information Policy, noting that this year's Frankfurt Book Fair is held under the slogan "Humanity in Crisis" and covers the topics of countering war and violence.
The Ukrainian delegation at the fair organised various events under the slogan "The Fragility of Existence", which were attended by prominent Ukrainian authors, translators and intellectuals. Among them were Iryna Tsilyk, Maksym Yakovlev, Kateryna Mikhalitsyna, Anna Novosad, Yulia Kozlovets, Alyona Karavay, Vakhtang Kebuladze, Svitlana Oslavska, Oksana Zabuzhko and Yaryna Chornohuz. The topics of discussion included: "War and Reading", "Women's Voices from Ukraine to the World", "Nuances of Translation: Literature Around the War", and "Creative Europe: Opportunities for Ukrainian Publishers", as well as aspects of vulnerability and destruction of nature during the war.
We would like to remind you that most of the events dedicated to the Ukrainian literary and book industry will take place this year within the framework of the project German and Ukrainian Book and Literary Industries in Dialogue, funded by the German Federal Ministry of Culture and Media. This project aims to support and develop Ukrainian authors, publishers and media professionals, as well as to strengthen the German audience's understanding of Ukrainian culture and history.
