Romania in figures - increases and decreases in the meat industry

In September 2023, Romania offered a detailed look behind the scenes of the meat industry, revealing interesting fluctuations in meat production. According to data provided by the National Institute of Statistics, September's figures are full of contrast, with year-on-year increases and decreases compared to the previous month.

The country's poultry meat production saw a solid increase of 3.7% in September 2023, compared to the same period last year. However, compared to the previous month, there was a significant decrease of almost 4%, totaling 45,715 tones. The number of birds slaughtered increased to 27.11 million, exceeding the September 2022 figure but remaining below the August level.

In the pork sector, production increased modestly by 2.9% to 24,379 tons in September2023. However, this was down from the previous month's peak of 25,397 tons. The number of pigs slaughtered was up slightly from last year, but down from August 2023.

In contrast, beef production saw an 8% decrease in September 2023 compared to the same period last year and to August 2023. With a total production of 6,849 tons, this sector is exploring new directions in September.

Sheep and goat meat experienced a decline of 2.6% to 4,504 tons in September 2023. However, compared to August 2023, it saw an increase of 2.8%. The number of sheep and goats slaughtered experienced a slight decrease compared to the same period last year, but also compared to August 2023.
