"According to expert estimates, the number of able-bodied population in Ukraine has decreased by 40% compared to pre-war 2021. Information from recruitment platforms shows that the ratio of vacancies to resumes, reaches a critical level. If before the full-scale aggression there were two candidates for one vacancy, now the ratio is almost one to one. According to the latest data, there were 67 thousand resumes for 62 thousand vacancies", she said.

Pischulina emphasized that as of today, Ukraine needs more than 4.5 million able-bodied citizens for economic recovery. She also noted that the reduction of such population is influenced by demographic and regional processes.

"Now the number of people of retirement age is increasing, which affects the structure of the economy and the existing labor market. Regional specificity also affects: due to the migration of the population there was a partial deindustrialization of the east of Ukraine, the agrarian sector in the south has lost its potential. There has been a relocation of enterprises to the rear regions of Ukraine, but in the west it is difficult to create the defense industry, because there have been no large industrial enterprises there so far, and in terms of organization of production there is no industrial-technical culture", the expert explained.
  • On March 28, it was reported that without changing the demographic strategy, the population of Ukraine may decline to 28.9 million people by 2041 and to 25.2 million — by 2051. The authorities are thinking about how to prevent this.
