What kind of information leak we may be talking about: details

On May 22, Ukrayinska Pravda reported that the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office and police representatives were searching a representative of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau as part of an investigation into information leaks in the high-profile criminal case of the "big construction site". UP wrote that the investigative actions took place at the home of NABU detective Valeriy Polyuga and the defendant in the case — ex-head of the Brovary Regional State Administration Georgiy Birkadze.

Subsequently, the SAP officially announced that it is providing procedural guidance in the pre-trial investigation conducted by the NABU's Internal Control Department regarding the probable commission of criminal offenses by NABU employees.

"The relevant proceedings were initiated after a memo from a whistleblower — a NABU employee. It should be noted that no searches or investigative actions were conducted at the NABU premises on the initiative of the SAP prosecutors. In this criminal proceeding was searched exclusively at the place of residence of a current employee of the NABU — a detective of one of the divisions",  said in the report of the SAP.

The SAP added that involved in the search of representatives of the National Police "because of the insufficient resources of the internal control department of the NABU". "Employees of the National Police of Ukraine do not have and could not have any access to the materials of the National Bureau's investigations", the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office said.

On the same day, the NABU responded that based on a report on the relevant resolution of the director of the internal control department, the NABU launched a pre-trial investigation into a possible leak of information.

"Since the beginning of registration in the ERDR, almost all investigative actions have been carried out directly by prosecutors We bring to the attention of our colleagues in the SAP: NABU had and has enough resources to carry out the investigation," the NABU said.

The NABU added that their agency "always guarantees an independent, impartial and comprehensive pre-trial investigation" and expects "the same approach" from its main partners.
