MP from OPZZ detained for cooperation with FSB in Donetsk region
In addition, the deputy passed on information about the consequences of russian air strikes
The Security Service of Ukraine announced the detention of a deputy of the Druzhkivka City Council from the banned OPZZ party, who was involved in cooperation with the FSB and helped the occupiers identify the defensive positions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in Donetsk region.
"Before detaining the deputy, the SBU documented his criminal activities in stages. It was established that he was a member of the FSB informant network, which the Ukrainian special service exposed in March 2023. At the same time, 4 of his accomplices were detained", the statement emphasizes.
According to the investigation, the OPZZ deputy transported the FSB agent in his car, allowing him to covertly record the locations of the defensive positions of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, including fortifications, checkpoints, as well as places of potential ammunition storage.
At the same time, employees of the enemy special service in Donetsk region tried to track the movement of military echelons and the locations of railway stations where Ukrainian defenders unload weapons.
"In addition, after the russian air strikes, the attackers collected information about the consequences of enemy 'arrivals'", the statement added.
The Security Service notes that, according to its information, the russian invaders planned to identify weaknesses in the defense of Druzhkivka using such intelligence. At present, SBU investigators have served the city council deputy a notice of suspicion under Part 7 of Art. 111-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (providing illegal armed or paramilitary groups of the aggressor state with assistance in conducting hostilities against the Armed Forces of Ukraine), the SBU summarizes. The defendant is in custody and faces up to 15 years in prison.
Note: according to Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent of committing a crime and cannot be subjected to criminal punishment until his or her guilt is proved in accordance with the law and established by a court verdict.
