Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson expresses country's desire to play a constructive role in ending hostilities in Ukraine

During his recent visit to Beijing on April 1, French Foreign Minister Stéphane Séjourné expressed hope that China would play a key role in influencing russia to achieve peace in Ukraine, according to Le Dauphine.

"We expect China to send clear signals to russia. Undoubtedly, China has an important role to play in ensuring Ukraine's independence and respect for international law, including its sovereignty," Séjourné said.

Western countries have repeatedly asked China to increase its involvement in the conflict by using its influence on russia.

"As I have already told you, Minister, this war is the business of the entire international community," the French minister told his Chinese counterpart, who did not mention the war in Ukraine in his opening remarks at the press conference.

Séjourné also emphasized that without peace in Ukraine that is in line with international law, there can be no security for Europeans.

"Security for Europeans is impossible without peace based on international law. Therefore, this issue is of great importance to us, and that is why France seeks to maintain a close dialogue with China," he said.

Recently, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian expressed Beijing's desire to play a constructive role in ending the fighting and finding a political solution to the "crisis" in Ukraine.
