World media on strengthening Ukraine's defense and China's role in the war
Analysis of the situation at the front, the development of Ukrainian military production and China's possible influence on the conflict resolution
On April 2, the world media actively discussed the situation on the eastern front of Ukraine, in particular near Avdiivka, where the Ukrainian defense was under pressure from russian troops. According to CNN, British defense intelligence reported that key positions had partially fallen under russian control.
"russian forces continued their gradual advance west of Avdiivka. By the end of March 2024, they had almost certainly taken control of two villages - Tonenke and Orlivka - and are continuing to gain others in the area," the UK statement said.
At the same time, the Ukrainian arms industry is actively developing to meet the needs of the frontline. According to the New York Times, Ukraine has increased production of self-propelled artillery systems "Bohdana" to eight units per month. However, the production of 155mm artillery shells, which are critical to the front line, still depends on imported raw materials and licensing rights from Western manufacturers.
Internationally, France called on China to play a more active role in influencing russia to end the war in Ukraine.
The Chinese government "plays a key role in... respecting international law, including Ukraine's sovereignty, and so we clearly expect China to send very clear messages to russia," French Foreign Minister Stéphane Séjourné said during a visit to Beijing.
Thus, the situation on the frontline, the development of Ukrainian military production and international diplomatic efforts remain the key factors that will determine the further course of the conflict in Ukraine.
