MP Yaroslav Zheleznyak suggested why Mariana Bezuhla was not expelled from the Servant of the People faction. According to him, this is a purely political issue

On March 28, the Deputy Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada, Oleksandr Korniyenko, announced that as of now, no applications for withdrawal from the SN faction have been received by the presidium of the parliament from Mariana Bezuhla. At the same time, the MP herself previously claimed that she had submitted an application and asked to be released.

According to Zheleznyak, Bezuhla's declaration was "lost," as was the resolution to resign from the mandate of another MP from the Servant of the People because the faction can no longer lose members.

"The fact is that there are now officially 235 MPs in Servant of the People. In fact, it's not true, add a few non-factional MPs, plus MPs who are delegated to other partner groups. But subtract the MPs of Razumkov's group. But officially, for the coalition represented by one faction, 226+ are counted in the Servant party," Zheleznyak explained.

When majoritarian MPs leave the faction, they simply become non-factional, but do not lose their mandate. If an MP elected on the party's list leaves the faction, he or she automatically loses his or her mandate, and the next person on the list can be appointed to replace him or her.

According to Zheleznyak, the departure of the majoritarian MPs from the Servant of the People (Bezuhla is a majoritarian) may call into question the existence of the coalition.

"Now the margin is already small, at 10 votes, and if two more deputies are released, it will be 8. And in the future, this is a big enough risk. In fact, a small group of majoritarian MPs in the Servant of the People party will be able to call into question the existence of the coalition. Therefore, no one will be released.... Only when there is no other way out", the MP noted.
"In fact, the issue is purely political. Only factions (and not groups) can form a coalition, but I am sure that if necessary, my colleagues will simply recruit MPs from groups. But politically, it will look bad", he added.
  • In January, Bezuhla said she had written a letter of resignation from the Servant of the People faction and party. In February, she was expelled from the party.
