Jerry Bruckheimer, producer of the "Pirates of the Caribbean" film series, said he does not expect actor Johnny Depp to return to the role of Captain Jack Sparrow

Pirates of the Caribbean adventure film series producer Jerry Bruckheimer told ComicBook.com in an interview that he plans to reboot the franchise. However, he hinted that he's not counting on the return of actor Johnny Depp, who played the lead role in all the films - Captain Jack Sparrow.

The 80-year-old producer, who also worked on the "Top Gun" franchise films, was asked about the fate of both of his projects.

"You just don't know. In 'Top Gun,' you have an iconic and brilliant actor (Tom Cruise, - ed.). I can't tell you how many movies he did before he did 'Top Gun.' But we will reboot 'Pirates' because it's easier because you don't have to wait for certain actors," Bruckheimer said.

In 2022, the producer had already noted that Depp would not be involved in the sixth installment of the franchise. This is due to the actor's legal battle with his ex-wife, actress Amber Heard. Despite the fact that Depp won the court and proved his ex-wife's lies, the years of legal battle has not been easy for the Hollywood actor. The ex-spouse's trial was widely covered in the media, and the sessions were broadcast live online, including social media. The actor survived the "time of exile" from Hollywood and created a picture dedicated to the difficult stage of "Five", named after the number of years of the trial.

In July 2022, a month after the end of the trial, the first rumors appeared in the media that Johnny Depp may return to filming in "Pirates of the Caribbean". However, sources close to the star said the actor has a grudge against Disney Studios, which produced the series of films and severed its relationship with the actor in 2018 - right after his ex-wife accused him of abuse. It was noted that the studio offered the actor $20 million for the iconic role, but Depp, according to his friends, ended things with Disney once and for all.

Although the entire "Pirates of the Caribbean" series was commercially viable, the new films were less successful than the very first, "Curse of the Black Pearl."
