A new type of WhatsApp fraud: how to protect your account
The Center for Countering Disinformation warns about the spread of fraudulent messages in a popular messenger
The Center for Countering Disinformation reports a new fraudulent scheme that is gaining momentum in the WhatsApp messenger. Fraudsters are trying to gain access to user accounts using sophisticated methods.
"Users receive a message with a link to a fake page of "Electronic Petitions" about the alleged need for additional votes to award the title of Hero of Ukraine to an unspecified relative. Clicking on this link requires authorization in WhatsApp, which ultimately allows fraudsters to take over the victim's personal account," the Center's report says.
The Center for Countering Disinformation urges users to be alert and block numbers from which such suspicious messages are received. It is important to avoid clicking on unknown links.
"If you do become a victim of such scams, immediately contact the cyber police or other relevant authorities," the experts advise.
Recently, russian propaganda has been spreading fake information about the alleged destruction of two Patriot missiles at Zhuliany airport as a result of a strike by Zircon hypersonic missiles on March 25.
