Analysis of the financial situation of city leaders: from salaries to personal assets
The study of the declarations of mayors of regional centers of Ukraine for the past year, conducted by Espresso, revealed interesting facts about their income, expenses and property. The study showed that mayors' earnings do not always correlate with the size or economic status of the city they represent. Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Terekhov received the highest salary, earning UAH 1,714,900 in 2022. He also keeps a significant portion of his savings in cash, including $151,000, €54,000, and UAH 135,000.
The second highest-earning mayor was Anatoliy Bondarenko of Cherkasy, who earned UAH 1,387,834, while his wife Valeria earned UAH 4,740,462 from entrepreneurial activities. The third place was taken by Lutsk Mayor Ihor Polishchuk with a salary of UAH 1,054,469. Interestingly, Dnipro Mayor Borys Filatov, who ranked fourth, has significant cash savings and a large amount of real estate.
Among other important revelations, Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko, who ranked fifth in terms of salary, has significant debts to third parties. The lowest-paid mayor was Hennadiy Trukhanov from Odesa, whose salary for 2022 was only UAH 285,574, but he has significant savings.
Interestingly, some mayors, such as Borys Filatov, have unique assets, such as a ticket for a suborbital flight from Virgin, purchased for UAH 1,400,000. It is also worth noting that many mayors own expensive cars and real estate abroad.
In general, the analysis of the declarations of mayors of Ukrainian cities for 2022 revealed significant differences in their income, property status and lifestyle, which raises interest in the sources of their enrichment and the way they run their businesses.
