On Saturday, March 23, Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed said that the country plans to pass a law allowing foreigners to own real estate as part of a broader plan to open up the economy and attract investors.

This was reported by espreso.tv

According to the publication, foreigners are currently prohibited from owning both residential and commercial real estate in Ethiopia, which in turn hinders efforts to attract foreign investment to the country.

During a meeting of major taxpayers in the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa, Abiy said that his government was finalizing a new law that would allow foreigners to own real estate. However, he did not specify when exactly this law would be submitted to the parliament.

"We will pass a law that will allow foreigners to own real estate," he said. - "It (the economy - ed.) was closed, but now we will open it a little bit. So we want you to be ready as well."
  • Last August, it was reported that six countries - Argentina, Egypt, Iran, Ethiopia, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE - had been invited to join the BRICS group of countries.
