Zelenskyy met with Zaluzhnyi before changing the leadership of the Armed Forces
President of Ukraine thanks the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces for 2 years of defense of Ukraine
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Valeriy Zaluzhnyi held a joint meeting, which is expected to lead to changes in the military command structure.
It was reported by Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Valeriy Zaluzhnyi on Telegram.
"I met with General Valeriy Zaluzhnyi. I thanked him for two years of defending Ukraine. We discussed what kind of renewal the Armed Forces of Ukraine need. We also discussed who could be in the renewed leadership of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Now is the time for such an update", - Zelenskyy wrote.
The president clarified that he had invited Valeriy Zaluzhnyi to continue being part of the team.
The Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces also stated that he had an important and serious conversation with Volodymyr Zelenskyy, during which it was decided to change approaches and strategy.
"I am grateful to everyone who is with me. The team of the General Staff, the Ministry of Defense, the President of Ukraine. I am proud of everone in the Armed Forces of Ukraine who protects the future of our children. All soldiers, sergeants and officers. I pay tribute to all those who have given their lives for Ukraine and freedom. We remember and we will avenge them all. Ukrainians will definitely win. Glory to Ukraine!", - Valeriy Zaluzhnyi emphasized.
It is not yet known whether the change of military leadership means the resignation or dismissal of Zaluzhnyi himself.
As a reminder, since 29 January, rumours have been circulating online that Volodymyr Zelenskyy has prepared but not yet signed a decree to dismiss the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Valeriy Zaluzhnyi. According to media reports, Zelenskyy offered Zaluzhnyi to resign, but he refused.
