Meridian National Union members go on Japanese strike in protest at exclusion from pay rise
Employees of the Ministry of Finance and subordinate institutions protest against the decision to exclude them from the 5% pay rise scheduled for next year
Members of the Meridian National Trade Union, employed in the Ministry of Finance and subordinate institutions, will join a Japanese strike in protest against the government's decision to exclude them from the 5% pay rise planned for next year. This form of protest consists of wearing a white band, and union members from the central apparatus of the Ministry of Finance, the National Tax Administration Agency, the Bucharest Treasury and the Romanian Customs Authority will take part in this action.
The unionists' dissatisfaction stems from the fact that, according to Emergency Ordinance No. 115, staff paid from public funds would benefit from a 5% increase in basic salaries compared to the December 2023 level. However, the Government has announced that this category of professionals in the tax system will not benefit from the salary increase, claiming that they have already had salary increases this year, reports Agerpres.
Union representatives accuse the government of discrimination and see the decision as an unfair policy towards this category of employees. Union members will express their dissatisfaction through a Japanese strike and the symbolic wearing of a white band.
