Rheinmetall plans to install Germany's latest Skyranger anti-aircraft guns on Leopard 1 tanks. Thus the new Frankenstein unit will be able to shoot down missiles and drones. Its creation will help strengthen Ukraine's defense capabilities.
The head of Rheinmetall's ground systems department, Bjorn Bernhard, said:
"There are many more Leopard 1 main battle tanks on whose chassis we could install the Skyranger turret with a 35 mm automatic gun".
It became known earlier that German defense concern Rheinmetall will start production of Lynx infantry fighting vehicles in Ukraine. The first vehicles should be ready this year.
