Zelenskyy arrived on a visit to Qatar: topics of talks
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy arrived in Qatar for talks with Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani
"Qatar is helping Ukraine to return children abducted by Russia. We will talk about continuing this work both as part of the International Coalition for the Return of Ukrainian Children and as part of the Peace Summit, where this is among the agenda items", Zelenskyy said.
He also noted that Qatar was actively involved in the preparation of the Peace Summit and should be "one of the voices of the Middle East" at it for bringing people home, global food, nuclear and energy security.
"We will also discuss a number of bilateral economic and security issues with His Highness the Emir of Qatar", Zelenskyy announced
Subsequently, he discussed the details of the talks.
"Held a meeting with Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani. Thank you for supporting Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity and all key UN resolutions to condemn full-scale Russian aggression", Zelenskyy said.
The president added that Qatar's support for the Ukrainian Peace Formula is important.
"Talked about preparations for the Global Peace Summit, one of the topics of which will be the release of captured and deported Ukrainians. Thanked for assistance in the return to Ukraine of children forcibly removed by Russia. We have agreed to continue our cooperation in this area. We count on further solidarity of Qatar with our state at this historic moment", he emphasized.
What is known about the Peace Summit in Switzerland
The World Conference on Peace in Ukraine is scheduled for June 15-16 in the Swiss resort of Bürgenstock. The Bürgenstock summit is seen by Switzerland as one designed to kick-start the peace process.
On March 18, Chinese Ambassador to Switzerland Wang Shi-ting said that the PRC is considering participating in the peace summit, which Switzerland is organizing at the request of Ukraine.
On May 2, the Swiss Foreign Ministry said that Russia should participate in the peace summit because "a peace process without Russia is unthinkable". However, this year Moscow was not invited to the event.
On the same day, Ukrainian President Zelenskyy said that the summit would be the first real chance to restore peace.
On May 26, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that more than 80 countries have already confirmed their participation in the Peace Summit, which will be held in Switzerland on June 15-16.
