Poland will investigate the influence of Russia and Belarus on the political life of the country over the past 20 years — Tusk
The Commission of Inquiry into Russian and Belarusian Influences on Poland 2004-2024 begins its work today
The commission will begin its work today, he said. It should inform the state bodies and public opinion in the country about the real threats from Russia and Belarus, which were in the past and exist today. The commission consists of 12 people.
"We already know for sure that these two countries and their intelligence services are the most active in Poland", Tusk emphasized, noting that the first results of the commission's work will be known in two months.
The head of the commission and current head of Poland's military counterintelligence service, Jaroslaw Strzyżyk said: the group will be divided into subgroups, which will be responsible for the influence of Russia and Belarus on the Polish economy, security issues and media.
At the same time, Polish Interior Minister Tomasz Siemoniak said that many cases appeared in the public space, which should be clarified. Among them are record Russian coal shipments to his country under the previous Polish government, the "strange" career development of a military officer with pro-Russian views, Krzysztof Gaj, who served as an adviser under the previous government, or the leaked e-mail correspondence of Michał Dworczyk, the former head of the Council of Ministers office.
- On May 10, it became known that Poland prepared a legislative bill that would create a Sejm commission to investigate the influence of Russia and Belarus on the political life of the country.
