Biden says Ukraine does not need to join NATO to achieve peace
U.S. President Joe Biden
US President Joe Biden has said that Ukraine does not necessarily need to become a NATO member state to achieve peace
That was reported by espreso.tv
"Peace will consist of Russia never, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever occupying Ukraine. That's what peace looks like. And that doesn't mean NATO, they are part of NATO. It means we have the same relationship with them as we do with other countries where we supply weapons so they can defend themselves in the future", the U.S. president said.
He also noted that he was someone who said he was not ready to support NATOization of Ukraine.
"There (in Ukraine, - ed.)was significant corruption there. It was a circumstance that really weighed things down", Biden said, recalling times when he visited Ukraine as a senator and vice president.
Now, however, he is convinced that if the West lets Ukraine fall, it will mean instability for all countries along the border of Russia, the Balkans and Belarus.
- At the alliance's annual summit in Washington this summer, NATO plans to offer Ukraine a security package that would serve as a "bridge" to its membership.
