Streaming platform Netflix has officially confirmed that it will make a feature-length movie based on the British crime-drama TV series "Peaky Blinders", which has yet to be titled. The tape will be directed by Tom Harper, who directed the first episode of the original series. The screenplay will be written by the writer and creator of "Peaky Blinders".

Oscar winner Cillian Murphy, who starred in the TV show, will return to the role of Birmingham clan leader Tommy Shelby.

Production is scheduled to begin later this year. The producers will be Caryn Mandabach, Steven Knight himself, and the project's star, Cillian Murphy. The film will be produced in association with BBC Film.

The plot details and the full cast are being kept secret, although Knight has previously revealed that the story will be set during World War II.

"I don't think Tommy Shelby is done with me yet. It's a pleasure to collaborate again with Steven Knight and Tom Garper on 'Peaky Blinders'. It's for the fans", Murphy commented on the news.

The director recalled getting involved with "Peaky Blinders" 10 years ago and shared that "there was something explosive about the alchemy of the cast and the script!"

"Peaky Blinders" has always been a story about family — and so it's incredibly exciting to reunite with Steve and Cillian to bring this movie to audiences around the world on Netflix", Harper added.

In March, Steven Knight, writer, producer and creator of the gangster series chronicling the Shelby family's life in the 1920s Birmingham, confirmed that lead actor Cillian Murphy will return to his role as Thomas Shelby in a feature film based on "Peaky Blinders."
