During the vote for the bill on the use of English in Ukraine, MPs also supported the amendment on budgetary support for cinemas
This was reported by nardeputy Yaroslav Zheleznyak. The law regulates the peculiarities of the use of English in the work of government bodies, local self-government bodies, in the spheres of education, culture, transportation, health care, etc.

Zheleznyak also said that there was a discussion on the amendment on budget support for cinemas for showing English-language films, which was introduced a day before the vote. The amendment was supported by 226 deputies.

On June 28, 2023, President Zelenskyy introduced a bill to the Verkhovna Rada that would enshrine the status of English as a "language of international communication". The justification of the draft notes that English is official de jure in 58 of the 196 countries of the world, and de facto in a number of other countries and territories. It is also one of the six languages of the United Nations and an official language of the European Union, the Council of Europe, the European Commission, the European Free Trade Association and NATO.

On 22 November 2023, the Verkhovna Rada in the first reading supported the draft law on the use of English in Ukraine.
