During the session of the Verkhovna Rada, deputies voted in favor of the bill to increase the excise tax on tobacco products

It was reported by People's Deputy of Ukraine Yaroslav Zheleznyak. The draft law "On Amendments to the Tax Code of Ukraine regarding the revision of excise tax rates on tobacco products" is registered in the Rada under No. 11090. According to Zheleznyak, the excise tax on cigarettes will be pegged to the euro, not the hryvnia. It will increase by 23% in 2025 and then by 5% annually until 2028. This year's increase will be only in case of devaluation.

Zheleznyak said that the implementation of the bill will lead to an increase in budget revenues due to additional tobacco excise tax revenues of about ₴612 million in 2025, ₴5 billion in 2026, ₴9.3 billion, in 2028 —  ₴13.8 billion.

The revenues to the state budget of Ukraine from excise taxes on tobacco and nicotine products in 2023 amounted to ₴80.3 billion.
