From the Ministry of Finance to the leadership of the National Bank of the Republic of Moldova - A new era in economic policy

Anca Dragu, former Minister of Finance and President of the Romanian Senate, recently became Governor of the National Bank of Moldova (BNM), marking a significant change in the leadership of the country's key financial institution.

With extensive experience in the financial and monetary field, Anca Dragu won the vote of confidence from the parliament in Chișinău, with 58 MPs supporting her candidacy. Her background in economics, including more than 15 years working at the National Bank of Romania and the International Monetary Fund, has brought her recognition and expertise.

Dragu takes over as governor at a crucial time for Moldova's economy. Former governor Octavian Armașu has been removed from office, accused by lawmakers of "sabotaging money recovery" and other bank fraud issues.

The new governor has already been sworn in as a Moldovan citizen, stressing his responsibility to the country's European course. "We need strong, independent institutions to ensure the economic stability of the country and prosperity for all citizens," Dragu said.

Anca Dragu is the first woman to be appointed Governor of the National Bank of Moldova, bringing a fresh perspective and expertise to a key position for the country's economic future.
