Rigorous controls reveal widespread irregularities in agri-food establishments: veterinary health inspectors take drastic action

From 30 November to 18 December 2023, The National Sanitary Veterinary and Food Safety Authority (ANSVSA) intensified controls in the agri-food industry, discovering a number of serious irregularities. Fines totaling more than 3.5 million lei have been imposed and 46.1 tonnes of animal products have been officially detained.

The irregularities detected in the 4,950 official checks included improper storage and labelling, expired products, marketing in unhygienic conditions and lack of necessary documentation. In addition to financial penalties, seven establishments had their activities suspended and five were banned altogether.

ANSVSA has officially detained a significant amount of products, including pork, poultry, fish, milk, dairy products and 389,104 pieces of eggs. Deficiencies identified ranged from improper storage to faulty handling and lack of compliance documentation.

Authorities announce that they will continue controls and intensify inspection actions in the food industry to ensure compliance with safety standards. Customers and consumers are encouraged to report irregularities via the ANSVSA "Call Centre" free of charge at 0800826787.
