Mures police have launched an operation against dog-fighting organisers, uncovering shocking evidence and putting an end to animal cruelty.

On 20 January 2024, police officers from the Mures Animal Protection Bureau carried out two house searches in Mures County in a criminal case concerning the offences of organizing dog fights, participating in such fights and unauthorized surgery (ear cropping).

According to a press release issued by the Romanian Police, following the searches, a dog with cropped ears was identified and a shelter placement order was issued for it, given its involvement in fights with other dogs. Several documents and a mobile phone were confiscated for further investigation.

The owner of the canine specimens was issued four fines that totalled 8,000 lei, in accordance with the provisions of GEO No. 155/2001 and Law No. 205/2004 on animal protection. Additionally, a shelter placement order was issued for another dog that had not been sterilized and was kept in inappropriate conditions.

The action was carried out with the support of officers from the Mures Special Action Service, and investigations are underway under the supervision of the Public Prosecutor's Office of the Târgu Mureș Court. The Mures Police reaffirms its commitment to the protection of animals and the fight against all forms of cruelty against them.
