Wind farms have generated an impressive amount of electricity, offsetting the drop in national consumption

Romania reached an all-time record in wind energy production in the first 11 months of 2023.This notable performance comes against the backdrop of a 5.7% drop in national electricity consumption, totalling 44.664 billion kWh.

Detailed analysis of the data highlights that wind farms played a crucial role in offsetting this decline, recording an 8.2% increase in production. According to data recently published by the National Statistics Institute (INS)  with a total of 6.930 billion kWh generated during the period, wind power is becoming an increasingly significant resource in the country's energy mix.

Renewable generation has thus become an important pillar in the transition efforts towards a cleaner and sustainable energy source. Hydropower also contributed to this positive development, recording a significant increase of 33.1% to 17.149 billion kWh.

These remarkable results underline the importance of continued investment in green infrastructure and sustainable technologies. Romania is on the path to an energy transformation, and progress in wind energy reflects the country's commitment to a more environmentally friendly future.
