The South Coast Radar is the most famous military facility in Big Yalta (coordinates 44.481491, 34.033617).

Before the occupation of Crimea, the Ukrainian radio frequency battalion of the 40th Radio Technical Brigade of the Air Force of Ukraine was located here, where Soviet-made radar systems "Oborona", "Altai" and "Granitsa-M", as well as Ukrainian 36DS-6 were located.

"The occupants have formed a unit of the 3rd radio frequency regiment of the Russian Air Force here. It is not known whether they have placed new radar equipment there, but the old one is enough to control the sky over Crimea and the sea around it", writes Krymskiy Veter.

The 3rd Radio Regiment is a military formation within the radio technical troops of the Russian Aerospace Forces. It was formed in 2014 after the annexation of Crimea by the Russian Federation on the base. The headquarters is located in the city of Sevastopol.
