Verkhovna Rada approves draft law to combat domestic violence
At a meeting on May 9, parliamentarians voted in favor of a European integration bill aimed at combating domestic violence, garnering 250 votes
This was reported by People's Deputy, Iryna Gerashchenko. The draft law developed by the government aims to implement the provisions of the Istanbul Convention and ensure gender equality between women and men. The document emphasizes a clear division of responsibilities between various bodies and organizations responsible for gender equality.
In addition, the bill prohibits any measures aimed at reconciling the parties in cases of domestic violence, and also provides for the possibility of mediation to resolve conflicts related to domestic and gender-based violence. In March, it became known that the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) were cooperating to combat domestic violence. In April, a mobile application was launched in Ukraine that allows calling the police in cases of domestic violence.
