American musician Ben Hagerty, better known as Macklemore, has released the track Hind's Hall, inspired by the current student protests in the United States. The title of the song honors the memory of Hind Rajab, a 6-year-old Palestinian boy killed in Gaza while waiting for help.

In Hind's Hall, the rapper tackles a number of issues, including police suppression of pro-Palestinian protests, American politics, white supremacy, social media censorship, and student activism.

In the track, Macklemore criticizes the status quo and wonders "why divestment from Israel and calls for peace are perceived as threats".

"People, they won't leave (the protesters - ed.) / What's the threat of withdrawal (of Israeli troops - ed.) and the desire for peace? / It's not the protests, it's the fact that they're protesting / It's against what our country funds / Block the barricades until Palestine is free", raps Macklemore.

Throughout the song, the American rapper continues to talk about the problems associated with the war between Israel and Gaza. He draws attention to the role of law enforcement and systemic structures.

"Actors with badges protecting property / And a system designed with white dominance / But the people in the streets / You can pay Meta, you can't pay me", Macklemore raps.

In addition to condemning Israel's campaign in Gaza, Columbia students are calling for their universities to divest from companies linked to Israel, a call that has been echoed on other US campuses. Last week, the NYPD arrested more than 100 people protesting at Columbia University. Overall, more than 2,000 people have been arrested in connection with protests on U.S. campuses.
