Mother-in-law of Energoatom president bought a house for UAH 7 million
How the retired mother-in-law of the Energoatom CEO managed to buy expensive real estate
The 70-year-old mother-in-law of Petro Kotin, president of the state-owned enterprise Energoatom, has bought real estate and land near Kyiv worth UAH 7 million. According to Kotin, his mother-in-law borrowed most of the money.
This is stated in the investigation "Schemes" .
In June 2023, Petro Kotin's mother-in-law became the owner of a two-story house of 288 square meters and the land under it, with private access to the lake. Additionally, journalists from Schemes have noted that Petro Kotin himself currently resides in this mansion.
"According to the document, the house and the land under it cost Kotin's 70-year-old relative almost 7 million hryvnias in total. Of these, 6.5 million for the house and 350 thousand for the land", - the investigation says.
In addition, Kotin's mother-in-law also owns three land plots in another elite village in Kyiv region. The land is fenced and has access to water.
The president of Energoatom named several sources of funds that allowed his mother-in-law to purchase the above property. In particular, according to him, these are her family's savings "for more than 50 years of work", cash belonging to her close relatives who entrusted her to take it out of the occupied territories, as well as borrowed funds in anticipation of the future sale of the property that is currently under occupation.
"I do visit this property and do not hide this information. I will indicate this information in my declaration, which has not yet been submitted", - Kotin confirmed to journalists from Schemes, whose crew recorded the company car used by the president of Energoatom entering the territory where the estate is located.
It should be noted that Kotin's mother-in-law had no official income of her own. The woman mostly worked at semi-state enterprises, in particular, at Zaporizhzhia thermal power plant. In total, from 2000 to 2009, Kotin's mother-in-law received 79 thousand hryvnias in salary. Now she is probably receiving pension payments.
It should also be noted that the High Anti-Corruption Court has chosen a measure of restraint against Mykola Bozhko, CEO of Energoatom's separate unit. He is suspected of causing almost UAH 100 million of damage to the state during the construction of a spent nuclear fuel storage facility.
