The chaplain of the Military Institute of Taras Shevchenko National University, Sergey Dmitriev, said that the russian church has long been used by the putin regime to achieve its political goals

He spoke about this on Espresso

"It was a matter of principle for me to leave the UOC-MP in 2014. After all, this is a church that has been blessing people to kill since that year. Therefore, if you belong to this church, you are involved in the killings. We should be honest about this. This is not an Orthodox church, and we should not hope that this will change. The kremlin continues to use religion to achieve its goals", Dmitriev explained.

According to the chaplain, russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine affected priests who began to abandon the moscow Patriarchate

"After 2014, I had many contacts with priests who still had doubts. After the Tomos was granted, the connection with them was gradually lost. Only the full-scale invasion began to influence the transition of priests to the OCU. By the way, it was these priests who had doubts who said that if they had left the UOC-MP back in 2014, there might not have been a war", he added.
  • On May 3, the Opendatabot platform reported that 8097 churches belonging to the moscow Patriarchate continue to operate in Ukraine, most of them are located in the Donetsk region — 683
