Popular rapper, music producer, composer and actor Marshall Mathers, known as Eminem, will release a new album this summer. It will be the first record in 4 years after the release of Music To Be Murdered By in 2020.
The Death of Slim Shady (Coup De Grâce) will be the twelfth studio album in the career of 51-year-old Eminem, whose longtime alter ego is Slim Shady.
The trailer for the new album The Death of Slim Shady (Coup De Grâce) has been posted on the social network X NFR Podcast, which covers hip-hop and rap music news. The video was shot in the format of a TV news story. In it, a crime reporter discusses the mysterious death of Slim Shady.
"With his complex, tongue-in-cheek rhymes that often received criticism, the anti-hero known as Slim Shady had no shortage of enemies", the reporter says.
Eminem's longtime friend and colleague, rapper and producer 50 Cent, makes a cameo appearance in the episode.
"He's not a friend, he's a psychopath", 50 Cent says of Slim Shady.
The reporter continues: "Those same crude lyrics and controversial antics could ultimately lead to his death. Join me as we recreate the events that led to Slim Shady's murder".
Eminem himself appears in the video and comments on the character's death.
"I knew it was only a matter of time for Slim", the rapper adds.
Eminem's latest album Music to Be Murdered By was released in January 2020. It was a runaway success, peaking at number one on the Billboard 200, and the single Godzilla featuring Juice WRLD peaked at number 3 on the Hot 100.
Slim Shady has long been an alter ego for Eminem, starting with the 1997 Slim Shady EP and The Slim Shady LP, which came out two years later. With this character, Eminem released more aggressive and violent lyrics that made him a controversial rapper from the very beginning of his career. Slim Shady took on the role of his alter ego in songs like Guilty Conscience, '97 Bonnie and Clyde and Kill You.
In March, Dr. Dre, who is a friend of Eminem's and also contributed to the creation of the upcoming studio album, first announced Eminem's new album.
