"The United States has imposed additional travel restrictions on a delegation led by Iranian Foreign Minister, Hossein Amir Abdollahian, who is in New York for meetings at the United Nations", a State Department spokesman said.

He clarified that the restrictions allow the delegation to move only within a two-block radius of the UN headquarters area, the Iranian mission to the UN and the residence of Iran's permanent representative to the UN, as well as on the way to John F. Kennedy International Airport.

"We take seriously our obligations as a UN host and remain concerned about Iran's destabilizing activities and support for terrorism", the State Department spokesman explained.

He noted that the American side will continue to clearly explain to Tehran the need to de-escalate and stop its reckless behavior.

  • Recall that the United States and the United Kingdom jointly announced sanctions against Iran on April 18 in response to its massive shelling of Israel last weekend.
