Almost half of Germans fear possible riots on New Year's Eve
To prevent a repeat of the riots, 50 percent of Germans are in favor of a general ban on firecrackers
Despite the turbulent past year, half of those polled in Germany remain calm about the possibility of a repeat of the events on New Year's Eve, according to a survey conducted by the INSA Institute for Bild.
According to the opinion poll, 43% of respondents express anxiety and expect possible unrest on New Year's Eve.
In terms of preventing possible misunderstandings, half of the respondents (50%) express support for a general ban on the use of firecrackers, compared to 42% who are against such a measure. However, 75% of respondents say they do not plan to set off firecrackers or fireworks on New Year's Eve, while just over a fifth (21%) intend to do so.
