Armenia completes criminal investigation against former president

The reason for this decision was the expiration of the statute of limitations

The Yerevan General Jurisdiction Court, headed by Judge Anna Danibekyan, has ruled on the case of former Armenian President Robert Kocharyan and former Vice Prime Minister Armen Gevorgyan, announcing the termination of criminal prosecution against the latter.

This was reported by Echo of the Caucasus.

The reason for this decision was the expiration of the statute of limitations.

Robert Kocharyan and Armen Gevorgyan were accused in the same criminal case, which was initiated on the fact that the former president received a bribe in a particularly large amount ($3 million) from entrepreneur Silva Hambardzumyan, and Gevorgyan was accused of money laundering.

It is also worth noting that in 2021, another criminal case was closed in Armenia, which concerned the overthrow of the constitutional order and was brought against former President Robert Kocharyan.

Former President Kocharyan, as well as other participants in the "March 1 case" - Seyran Ohanyan, Yuri Khachaturov and Armen Gevorgyan, were charged with overthrowing the constitutional order in Armenia in connection with the events of the March 1-2, 2008 riots.
