Bulgarian President vetoes supply of armored vehicles to Ukraine
Rumen Radev believes that armored vehicles should be better used for the needs of Bulgarian citizens
Bulgarian President Rumen Radev has vetoed a law ratifying an agreement under which Bulgaria provides Ukraine with armoured vehicles free of charge.
This was reported by nova.bg .
"I am guided by the belief that the safety, health and lives of Bulgarian citizens should be a priority," Radev said.
Radev stated, the armored off-road vehicles provided to Ukraine can be used specifically to protect the Bulgarian border and provide assistance to the population in case of disasters and accidents, including in hard-to-reach areas.
In his veto's explanatory note, Radev also mentioned that Bulgarian parliament members were not fully informed about the armored vehicles' capabilities before agreeing to transfer them to Ukraine. That is why they did not realize that this equipment should be left for the needs of Bulgarian citizens.
Recall that the Bulgarian parliament ratified an agreement to supply Ukraine with armored personnel carriers and spare parts for them, which are surplus. In addition, this is not modern equipment: these APCs were purchased during the rule of the communist regime in Bulgaria.
