Auction record: Princess Diana's iconic dress sold for $1.1 million
A Jacques Azagury creation becomes the most expensive dress worn by Princess Diana, exceeding initial estimates
An evening gown worn by Princess Diana during a visit to Florence in 1985 has set a new world record at auction, selling for a surprising $1.1 million. Created by designer Jacques Azagury, the dress was originally estimated at $100,000, but exceeded expectations at the Julien's Auctions and Turner Classic Movies auction.
Princess Diana was photographed wearing the dress on several occasions, including a visit to Vancouver a year later. Collectors competed to own this piece of history, and the $1.1 million price tag is 11 times higher than initial estimates, reports Digi24.
This world record surpasses the previous record of $604,800 for a dress worn by Princess Diana at auction. The auction, called "Hollywood Legends," also included other unusual items, such as a pink blouse worn by Princess Diana in her official engagement portrait in 1981, which sold for $381,000.
