French President Emmanuel Macron reaffirms support for Moldova's EU membership

The Republic of Moldova deserves to be part of the EU

French President Emmanuel Macron on Saturday expressed his government's full support for Moldova's accession to the European Union (EU). The statements come ahead of the European Council scheduled for 14 and 15 December, which will discuss Moldova's EU membership bid, as well as that of Ukraine.

In a phone call with Moldovan President Maia Sandu, Macron stressed his support for the country's European integration. He praised Moldova's significant progress in reforming the judiciary, economic development and the fight against corruption. Macron expressed his full readiness to strengthen administrative cooperation between the two countries, offering help by deploying experts to support ongoing reforms, reports TVR.

The statement also highlighted the excellent relations between France and the Republic of Moldova, with a focus on economic, cultural and defence cooperation. The statement noted Macron's significant contribution to the Republic of Moldova achieving candidate status in June 2022 during the French Presidency of the Council of the European Union.
