Fifty-three-year-old Javier Milei has been sworn in as president of Argentina, taking a solemn oath in the name of God and country. In his speech to thousands of Argentines gathered outside parliament, Milei drew comparisons to the fall of the Berlin Wall, declaring that Argentina was entering a new era of "peace and prosperity".
Argentina's new leader stressed that the country is facing one of the most difficult situations in its history and underlined the need for fiscal adjustment in the public sector, estimated at 5% of gross domestic product (GDP). Milei promised to dedicate his mandate with "loyalty and patriotism", adding that he intends to implement reforms needed to revitalise the country, reports Digi24.
