A significant step towards energy security and European integration
Sebastian Burduja, Romania's Minister of Energy, had a crucial meeting in Chisinau with the Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova, Dorin Recean. The event took place after the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding between the Government of Romania and the Government of the Republic of Moldova on the implementation of projects necessary for the interconnection of the natural gas and electricity networks.
This strategic agreement commits the two governments to accelerate the completion of projects for the interconnection of the national gas and electricity transmission networks. The objective is to ensure Moldova's energy security and integration into the European energy market.
Sebastian Burduja underlined the importance of Romania's support for Moldova's energy security and its integration into the European single energy market. Under the memorandum, the two countries undertake to carry out the necessary work for the Iași - Ungheni - Chișinău interconnection and to link the electricity markets, integrating Moldova into the European Union's internal market.
This initiative is a crucial step towards the European integration of the Republic of Moldova, giving it greater energy independence and strengthening energy security in the context of russian aggression in the region. By diversifying sources and supply routes, Moldova is preparing to become part of the European energy market before joining the European Union.
Romania's Ministry of Energy is committed to providing full support in shaping investment programmes in Moldova's energy sector, thus contributing to the strengthening of the energy partnership between the two countries.
