Transelectrica has secured significant funding of over €56 million through the REPowerEU programme to support the implementation of photovoltaic power plants and storage facilities in 29 power stations, the upgrading of the Smart SA subsidiary and the optimisation of the communications network managed by the Teletrans subsidiary, according to a press release.  The projects not only bring significant benefits in terms of renewable energy integration, but also aim to strengthen cyber security. Here are more details about this ambitious initiative.

Key Points:

Investments for Renewable Energy: Transelectrica will allocate €29.5 million for the installation of photovoltaic power plants and storage facilities in 29 power stations, with the aim of increasing flexibility and reducing grid bottlenecks.

Off-Grid Energy Efficiency: The photovoltaic plants will be used exclusively to supply electricity to the stations' internal services, with an estimated reduction of at least 50% of Transelectrica's own electricity consumption in these stations.

Revolution in Maintenance: With the allocation of 18.2 million € for the Smart SA retrofit, Transelectrica aims to equip the grid with state-of-the-art technology, including Under Voltage Working technology, to ensure efficient and continuous maintenance of the electricity grid.

Increasing Cyber Resilience: €8.4 million funding for Teletrans aims to upgrade the communications network and create a data centre to increase the cyber resilience of the electricity transmission grid and the National Electricity System.

Environmental Impact: The implementation of these projects will contribute to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions by 2610.93 tons CO2/year and will bring significant improvements in the quality of services provided by Smart SA and Teletrans.

With these investments, Transelectrica is not only moving forward in the direction of renewable energy, but also in advanced technologies to ensure a robust and secure electricity grid for the future.
