The average length of stay was 2.2 days for Romanian tourists and 2.1 days for foreign tourists

In the first 10 months of 2023, the number of arrivals in tourist accommodation facilities in Romania reached 11.794 million people, up by 11.3% compared to the same period of 2022. Arrivals of Romanian tourists accounted for 84.6% and those of foreign tourists for 15.4% of the total.

Overnight stays totaled 25.546 million, an increase of 10.6% compared to 2022. Romanian tourists' overnight stays accounted for 84.9%, while those of foreign tourists were 15.1%. The average length of stay was 2.2 days for Romanian tourists and 2.1 days for foreign tourists, according to data from the National Institute of Statistics (INS).

The net occupancy rate of accommodation was 31.5%, up by 1.4 percentage points compared to 2022.

By county, the highest numbers of arrivals were recorded in Constanța, Bucharest and Brașov. In terms of foreign tourist arrivals, most came from Germany, Italy and Israel.

Arrivals of foreign visitors to Romania at border crossings increased by 17.8%, reaching 12.619 million in the period January-October 2023. Departures of Romanian visitors abroad registered at border points increased by 12.7%, reaching 16.601 million people.

In October 2023, arrivals in tourist accommodation totaled 1.094 million people, up 4.4% compared to the same month last year. Arrivals of Romanian tourists accounted for 82.8% and those of foreign tourists for 17.2%.

Overnight stays in October 2023 reached 2.222 million, up 1.6% compared to the same month last year. The average length of stay was 2.0 days for Romanian tourists and 2.1 days for foreign tourists. The net occupancy rate decreased to 29.9%. Arrivals of foreign visitors at border crossings in October 2023 increased by 9.0% to 1.203 million. Departures of Romanian visitors abroad in the same period increased by 7.0% to 1.607 million persons.
