A film about 90s gangs wins the sixth National Film Critics Award
The winners of the sixth Kinokolo National Film Critics Award were announced on 12 October 2023. The film La Palisade, directed by Philip Sotnychenko, was recognised as the best feature film. This is the director's debut feature-length ironic detective film in the post-Soviet noir genre. The world premiere of the film took place on 29 January 2023 at the 52nd Rotterdam International Film Festival, where it won the FIPRESCI International Film Press Federation Award. It also won two awards at the eighth Ukrainian Film Festival in Poland: an award for cinematography and recognition as the best feature film of the festival.
The director of the film Luxembourg, Luxembourg, Antonio Lukic, won in two nominations: best director and best screenplay, Suspilne reports .
Mstislav Chernov's documentary 20 Days in Mariupol won for the year's opening and best documentary. Karina Khimchuk won Best Actress for her role as Tonya Noyabrskaya in the film Do You Love Me? Amil Nasirov won the award for Best Actor for his performance in Luxembourg, Luxembourg. "The GKChP was recognised as the best short feature film. One Hundred Nights by Sofia Melnyk won in the best animated film category.
Special awards were given to the servicemen of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, including Artur Kornienko, Yaroslav Pidhora-Gvyazdovsky, Yuriy Samusenko and Anton Filatov.
The Dovzhenko Centre team was also recognised for its contribution to the development of cinema, receiving an award for the lecture "How to stop worrying and love Ukrainian cinema". The winners for their achievements were Olena Honcharuk, Oleh Olifer, Alyona Penziy, Stanislav Bytyutskyi and Oleksandr Teliuk.
