Ukrainian music of the XVII - XIX centuries: performances of the "Chorea Kozatska" band in Finland

A performance by the Kozatska Chorea in Helsinki's unique Church in the Rock

Two charity concerts by the Khoreya Kozatska band, winner of the 2023 Shevchenko Prize, took place in Finland. The performances took place as part of the first Ukrainian Cultural Season in Finland (UKRAINE SEASON), organised by the NGO Society of Ukrainians in Finland, with the support of the Ministry of Education and Culture of Finland and the Centre for the Promotion of the Arts in Finland and the City of Helsinki.

According to LB.ua , during the concerts, the organisers managed to raise 8428.81 euros, which will be used to purchase evacuation vehicles for Ukraine.

On 15 October, the band performed in Tampere. The concert took place in the city's central cathedral, built in the style of national romanticism by Finnish architect Lars Sönk and decorated with frescoes by Hugo Simberg. The organisers note that the music of ancient and modern Ukraine sounded especially good under the vaults of this church.

"Another amazing and special evening of Ukrainian culture in our beautiful cathedral. Many unrivalled moments, tears, happiness and hope are embedded in the music and poetry that have been created in Ukraine for centuries," shared his impressions Matti Posio, editor-in-chief of Lännen Media Oy.

On 16 October, the Kozatska Chorea performed in Helsinki's unique Church in the Rock. The local audience warmly welcomed the compositions, which represented Ukrainian musical culture from the 17th to the 19th centuries.

At the end of the concerts, Finnish MP Peter Ostman shared his impressions: "Thank you to the wonderful artists who performed such incredible music. I am honoured to say on behalf of the entire Finnish Parliament that we all support Ukraine."
