What worries Ukrainians the most
The International Organization for Migration (IOM) conducted a survey titled "Your Feelings Matter Too" among Ukrainians regarding their anxieties. After all, anxiety has become a constant companion for millions of people in Ukraine during the widespread invasion.
According to the magazine VOGUE the survey lasted for two months and was conducted both online on a website and offline in IOM collective centres and cafes in Kyiv, Lviv, Odesa, Ternopil, Kherson, Dnipro, and Kharkiv. The results of the survey revealed the most common causes of anxiety among Ukrainians, including:
40% point to the loss of their homes or the fear of losing them.
15% express concerns for the safety and future of their children.
13% were troubled by the loss of loved ones.
10% feel burnout and fear for the future.
9% dealt with conflicts within their families.
7% experience sleep problems.
"Ignoring anxiety only intensifies it. Seeking professional help from experts makes it easier and faster to overcome anxiety and learn how to control it," says Hatem Marzouk, Project Manager for Mental Health and Psychosocial Support at the IOM representation in Ukraine.
For those who feel that they cannot overcome anxiety on their own, the IOM offers a hotline for psychological support. It operates free of charge and anonymously every day from 10:00 to 20:00 and provides consultations in Ukrainian, Russian, English, Arabic, and Bengali languages.
