Moldovan President Maia Sandu Hosts Key European Leaders in Chisinau
The talks also touched on the situation in Ukraine
Moldovan President Maia Sandu welcomed Austrian President Alexander Van der Bellen and Slovenian President Nataša Pirc Musar to Chișinău. Maia Sandu stressed the importance of the visit. She noted that shortly after the European Commission's recommendation to start negotiations, these European partners confirmed that Moldova is expected to join the European family.
"This is a strong gesture, which shows that we have reliable friends, with whose help we protect our democracy, develop our economy and build Europe here at home," said Moldovan President Maia Sandu.
The talks also touched on the situation in Ukraine, which is heroically resisting the russian invasion, thus protecting peace in Moldova as well. Maia Sandu called on the democratic community to continue supporting Ukraine.
She also expressed her gratitude for the solidarity of Austria and Slovenia, which are financing development projects in Moldova.
"We are counting on a positive decision by the member states to start accession negotiations at the European Council meeting on 14-15 December. Moldova's accession to the EU is our only chance to guarantee peace, freedom and well-being for the whole country", stressed Moldovan President Maia Sandu.
