Romania Adopts Anti-Harassment Measures in the Workplace
Government approves accession to ILO Convention 190/2019, enhancing protections for employees
Romania's government has approved a draft law making it possible for the country to accede to the International Labor Organization's Convention 190/2019 concerning the elimination of violence and harassment in the workplace. This move aims to improve the protection of employees against violence and harassment at work.
Acts considered harassment and violence include physical and verbal abuse, harassment and bullying, sexual harassment, threats and stalking or supervision. The scope of spaces where harassment is considered work-related includes official assignments, team building, travel to work, any public or private space associated with the workplace and online communication, reports news.ro.
The protection applies not only to employees, but also to trainees, apprentices, those whose employment relationship has ended, volunteers, job applicants and persons exercising the authority, duties or responsibilities of an employer. The adoption of this Convention is a significant step in ensuring a safe and non-discriminatory working environment for all professionals.
