Large-scale operation in Arad County
More than twenty migrants found trying to leave the country illegally
In an intensive action carried out by border guards in Nădlac over the last 24 hours, more than twenty migrants were discovered trying to leave Romania, hidden in trucks with goods checked at border crossing points in Arad county.
A truck registered in Turkey, and transporting car parts on the Turkey–Sweden route, became the subject of a thorough investigation. The driver, a Turkish national, was found to be hiding no less than 27 migrants from Bangladesh, Syria, Egypt, India and Nepal in the cargo compartment. Although most had entered the country legally, they were caught in the act of attempting to cross the border illegally, reports Border Police Oradea.
In another incident, a truck driven by a Bulgarian driver, loaded with sunflower seeds and en route to Germany, was involved in the discovery of three migrants from Ethiopia. They also entered Romania legally but were found during a thorough check.
Away from the border crossing points, five people from Bangladesh and Ethiopia were found by border guards just 50 meters from the Hungarian border. They had alighted from a truck driven by a Bulgarian driver.
The drivers involved are under investigation for migrant smuggling, while the migrants are being investigated for attempted fraudulent crossing of the state border.
