Josep Borrell on a working visit to China: what are the agenda items
The High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, is set to visit China for a meeting with the Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi. Borrell's visit is scheduled from October 12 to 14. The agenda includes discussions on trade, relations, and conflict resolution.
Europa Press reports that this is not the first planned trip, as it has been postponed twice earlier this year for various reasons.
During this visit, Borrell will co-chair a strategic dialogue between the EU and China. The purpose of the visit is to discuss bilateral relations and foreign policy issues, particularly the conflict in Ukraine.
One of the key discussion points with Wang Yi will be the trade imbalance between the EU and China, which has worsened nearly threefold since the beginning of 2016 and is a significant concern from Brussels' perspective.
Borrell's visit to China marks his first trip to the country since assuming the position of the head of EU diplomacy. It is expected that he will contribute to the preparation of the EU-China summit scheduled for the end of this year.
It is worth noting that the European Union is trying to involve China in the process of resolving the conflict in Ukraine, believing that China can influence the Russian leadership. This initiative received support from EU leaders at the recent summit in June."
