The European Parliament demands the implementation of sanctions against Serbia in the event of its involvement in the Kosovo conflict. On Thursday, October 19, 2023, members of the European Parliament adopted a resolution expressing concern about the 'dangerous policy' pursued by the Serbian government regarding the partially recognized Kosovo and its Western partners.

According to the European Parliament report, the adopted resolution condemns the 'disturbing and terrorist attack on Kosovor police,' which occurred in September and was carried out by Serbian armed formations in the village of Banska. The European Parliament calls on Serbia to cooperate in the investigation of this attack and to extradite those responsible for it to Kosovo.

The resolution also condemns the 'aggressive military policy' of Belgrade, indicating a 'dangerous and consistent policy' toward Kosovo and its Western partners.

According to the decision of the European Parliament, the European Commission should consider the possibility of freezing Serbia's funding through the Instrument for Pre-Accession Assistance if the investigation confirms the involvement of the Serbian state in the attack that occurred on September 24. Additionally, the European Parliament calls on the Council of the European Union to impose targeted sanctions against Serbia, including asset freezes and travel bans for individuals contributing to destabilisation in northern Kosovo and leaders of major organised criminal networks.

Furthermore, the resolution calls on Serbia and Kosovo to actively engage in peaceful negotiations and conflict resolution through dialogue, with the support of the European Union.

We would like to remind you that on September 24, Serbian militants attacked the Kosovo police, leading to an escalation of tension in the region. This event continues to be a subject of intense attention and discussion.
