Cruel torture of people by russian military in occupied parts of Ukraine
The United Nations officially recognized that Russia carried out acts of torture in the occupied territories of Ukraine. A UN commission that conducted an investigation in the Kherson and Zaporizhia regions confirmed the use of torture by Russian military forces to such an extent that it led to the deaths of some individuals.
According to a report by Sky News , the head of the Commission on the Situation in Ukraine, Eric Moze, informed the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva that their report contains additional evidence of systematic and widespread torture by Russian armed forces in areas under their control.
"Some cases of torture were so brutal that they resulted in the death of the victims," Moze emphasized, noting that torture primarily took place in detention centers under Russian control.
Russia, on the other hand, denies the allegations of committing crimes or causing harm to the civilian population in Ukraine. Russian representatives did not participate in the UN session, although they were given the opportunity to express their position.
It's worth noting that in June 2023, the UN expressed suspicion regarding russia's use of "state-sanctioned torture" against Ukrainian civilians and prisoners of war. More recently, the UN also stated that russian armed aggression against Ukraine has become synonymous with torture and other inhuman cruelties.
